Overcoming Stage Fright
My last post (from a loooong time ago) was about being daunted by speaking on stage. Well… I’m taking a stand-up comedy class now. I can’t say I’ve magically become funnier, but I have made some progress towards being ready to speak in front of an audience. I recommend a comedy class, improv class, or any other type of acting class for people who want to overcome the same fear.
I got in front of an audience a few weeks ago — it was mostly aspiring stand-up comedians, but there were a few paying audience members there. I spent 3 exhilarating minutes telling stories about my hilarious (and sadly deceased) grandmother, and got some laughs. I had spent all day sick to my stomach and ready to back out, so actually doing it was freeing. I’m doing it again tomorrow night.
